Lagos — Electricity distribution companies, DisCos will commence collection of full tariffs starting from 2021 following recent increment by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.
Latest tariff review documents issued to each of the 11 distribution companies by NERC, ‘Extraordinary Review of Multi Year Tariff Order 2015’ says 100 percent collection would begin from July next year.
However, currently, the DisCos have received approval to collect an average of 87.9 percent of the full tariffs in the first six months of 2021.
Although DisCos have already commenced collection of the new tariff, electricity consumers would pay higher in the coming year, especially in the second half of the year.
According to NERC, the new tariff which took effect from September 1, would not affect all classes of power users.
In the orders to the Discos signed by NERC Chairman, James Momoh, and a commissioner, Dafe Akpeneye, the new tariffs will cease to hold upon another review.
